Do you remember the Apollo 13 Space flight that almost didn't make it back to Earth after an explosion on board? Well, I am sure I've seen it too, but oftentimes in life the soul is stirred anew by a repeat. This happened to me today and I realized that I didn't know that much about it and I wondered why since I love science, space and everything to do with the happenings on and off the planet. But, when I looked up the mission, it occurred on April 11, 1973. At that time life was scary and hectic. I had a full time job and by then a 12, 11 and 3 year old. My life consisted to getting everybody and myself together in the mornings, babysitter, school and work and all in reverse order at the end of the day. Every day was basically the same. The children were my first priority, always. But I was divorced and life was just too full of children, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, food shopping on a very, very tight budget. At work I handled a million dollar budget for a savings and loan with 13 statewide branches. Newspaper, radio, direct mail and internals were by bailiwick and it was more than hectic. So you can see why I don't have much about Apollo 13 in my memory banks.
That was the year, I believe when I realized that as a woman with kids, I was on my own. I would give lip service to NOW because I was a charter member of a branch, but it was a useless organization for women like me. It did serve to help those women who had daddy, or hubby to pay their way through college and fund whatever dream they had and then leave them fortunes to live on. I was never in that league. So, I was on my own.
But, while I was trying to take care of my kids, the world began a serious l80 degree turn. It began to turn towards what we have today. If you want to understand where I am coming from, watch Appollo 13 with Tom Hanks/ At the end of this movie I cried and remembered what America used to be like. No, nothing was or is perfect and we will continue to need changes to make life fairer for all, but this is the first time in my life where I am truly worried.
The movie was able to show actual footage of the world praying for us. People massed in front of the Vatican while the Pope said his prayers. Americans too, got together to watch the saga and pray. We almost lost them that day. In the film, the actor, Ed Harris, has the most memorable line (at least to me) when he is told that we will fail he says and I am paraphrasing " I see us winning! That was America. That is still over half of this country in the flyover zones...this is what the snobs of this country do not understand and perhaps never will. This is where the hatred comes from. Deep in the caverns of their souls they know they are wrong but they don't know why but they will rail, spit hate and slime good people because to do otherwise is to admit they are the cause of our ailments. That, can never be.
So, catch Appollo 13 and I hope it also transports you back, for a minute, to an America we have almost lost. By the way, the O.J. Simpson Saga followed by William Jefferson Clinton's Impeachment should have shown clearly that our country was almost gone...neither of these events would have been tolerated in 1973...remember? Nixon resigned And, today we finally have the proof of the bias in academia, all of the lower educational system, the MSM, the publicly funded television and radio stations. They lied about Viet Nam and look what it has caused us. They are always yelling that it is the Right that lies, is racist, sexist and homophobic while they produce Sara Bernhard, David Letterman, Justice Ginsberg, Michelle Obama, the women on the View, Oprah and Maher to name just a tiny few.
But, do you know what really makes my head swim every time I think about it? The fact that almost all the Jewish people in America are Leftists . Thank about it, the most hated, abused and systematically executed race on the Planet for thousands of years. And they are Leftists. Does not blow the mind? I have asked why of a few Jews in my time that believe as I do and they all say the same thing: "I don't know and cannot figure it out!" Well, that's my rant for the day.
