I love Sunday mornings. The first thing I do is sort my Sunday morning newspaper...front page; business; local; gardening; enterainment, travel and last, commentary, what other papers call "opinion".  Most of the time I am gratified that I get to read a paper that comes from a conservative (please read traditionalist) bent toward a left of center viewpoint.  Then, and only then do I sit down and with my coffee begin what, for me, is the joy of this particular day of the week.  I first read all of the department store ads and list those things that have an interest for me:  who, what, where and how much.  Then, I read the paper cover to cover...usually prepare my second and last cup of coffee for the day and read "Commentary"!   Because it is my local paper, and, as I said comes from a right to slight left of center, I get the Professor that is twisted hard left; Dena Bunis who is left of center and the George Wills and Charles Krauthammers to balance things out along with
Mark Steyn who, other opinion columnists have a very hard time going against....Mark makes common sense. A lost art in this country.
The paper this morning had on its front page a column dealing with which of the six or so possible candidates would be able to get this state out of the mess Leftists and week-kneed Republicans have put
us in....Arnie, the governor is still hiring new federal employees even though we are truly bankrupt.  I know, I know, the world of the politicians has gone insane and the inmates are running the asylum...but, what to do?
Anyway, they want our "input"...yeah, like they'll listen.  But, a bit of slight of hand caught my eye.  They are trying to find a way to get rid of Proposition 13 passed over thirty years ago.  Prop. 13 does not allow the state to increase your property taxes any more than 1.25% or so of your original sales price. (Local governments have been able to get slightly around this.)   Politicians of every stripe and ideological interest group hate it and blame it for everything including your two-year old's inability to be potty trained.  The other thing that caught my eye was that they are going to try and do away with the 2/3rd's requirement to pass legislation...they want a simply majority.  Of course they do.  How else can they remove the brick-wall that prevents them from voting every left-wing insanity into law and on our backs.
But the column that truly caused me pain was on the last page of Commentary:  "Catastrophe of global organic farming", by Jay Ambrose, syndicated columnist goes on to point out that in fifty (50) years of studies, there is not one that shows any health benefit from eating organically!!!!  He goes on to show how, if this continues, TWO BILLION humans on planet will perish, die, cease to exist.  And, that reminded me of DDT.  DDT, for those of your too young to remember, was bug spray that we, over sixty years ago sprayed
throughout our home to kill all manner of pests.  As a child, I helped do that.  Well, it is bad stuff and the newly created Environmentalists Movement got it banned.  And guess what...malaria began to run roughshood over the human race, again!  Today, 300-500,000,000 people outside the U.S. get infected and one-half billion are left with anemia and about 2,000,000 die each year.  Maybe more, mostly in Africa.   In the Google definition of malaria there isn't a mention of the number of humans that have died since DDT was banned....the egg shells of eagles are finally back to their thickness...but the Enviros don't say how many people have died....I think a couple of hundred million or more...maybe even a billion.  You see, the death of these many humans is barely on their horizon, because  getting us back to the Middle Ages would suit them fine.  Not that they will live like that too.  Enviros want you and me back to the time of feudalism, but they will keep their 10,000 square foot homes, private airplanes and their riches and live in their kingly fashion.  "It is for thee and not for me" is their motto.  Come to think about it, isn't that the motto of the Health Care Debacle?  They will ram it down our throats, make us pay for it and they'll keep their federally provided insurance.  Representative Sanchez from Orange County didn't even choke when she answered that there is a provision in the Health Care bill allowing  those who wanted to keep their current insurance to keep it and she said "if I am happy with what I have, I won't be required to give it up."  Talk about chutzpa!  Only in America?  Don't bet on it.
