If it offends you, pluck it out....

I am not sure of the specific quote....oh...here it is:
     "King James Bible
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye,
rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. "(Thanks answers.com!)

I wrote about possibly losing my brother (4/23/08)...the youngest, most educated, most fecund in both definitions of the word.  He had begun leaning left and thinking of Obama.   In the process of which discussion he hurt my feelings (I would never let him know this).  I am his senior by a couple of decades and was one of two of six that never made it to college.  Myself and my sister...the two oldest married.  Tthe remaining four obtained degrees and three of the these went on to get their Masters, the youngest (the brother I speak of) went on to get a Ph.D.   So none of us were or are like Mr. and Mrs. Barack Obama.  My siblings and I had two loving parents and our parents were never financially secure and we were therefore, much like a majority of Americans.  But, look what my folk accomplished.  They had hope and worked for it all the days of their lives.  They pushed us, encouraged us and never let us forget that an education was a must.
My brother is my "eye" and offends me, on occasion, but I cannot nor will I ever pluck him out.  It is my hope that these decades of "discussions" will move him in a good direction.  That he will not forget his umbrella when it rains hard so that he drowns.  When he mentioned the New York Times, I think I turned blue...I'm not sure.  What I am sure of is that I got off the phone as quickly and nicely as I could.
It may be that as you age, some age badly.  I've met a few that way.  But, by and large, most older people are still "there" and can actually think about many subjects and come to their own conclusion....maybe.  There are a lot of older people on the Uber Left so maybe I am wrong.  I like to give people the benefit of the doubt even when you know there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever!  Or it could be that once brainwashed deeply, forever brainwashed??
The quote above popped into my head because the brother called and he proceed to irritate me and I cut loose in a modest sort of way.  I am no longer able to scream...when I was 32, part of my therapy was to give up screaming and it seems that what the mind decides the laryxn sets in stone.  I have always been able to speak loudly, but for over thirty years I have not been able to scream.  So, I was modest.  I was firm and forthright and I think I hurt his feelings this time.  Basically what I said was:  when 95% of academia, media, celebrities, bureaucrats on every level are biased to the Left, how could what I see and/or hear be depended on without my doing research and reading, listening and seeing as many sides of any issue and then, only then, making up my own mind.  That my mind often agrees more with the RIGHT then the LEFT is just what it "is"!  I don't have a soul, there is no heaven or hell for me.  I love my family, friends and the ability to see and hear and understand, not only our lexicon but how it is used to brainwash the masses.  But, if you don't watch television, hear the radio, see articles from various sources on a multitude number of issues, then (and here I got loud...no I didn't scream, but I did get loud) how in the hell does that person have any opinion on anything other than their personal life and their work.  I think I hurt his feelings.  He is the baby and a Ph.D. to boot...but hey, if it offends the......
