There isn't anything to find out about our recent past, along comes this bit from a KABC Radio, LA/Orange Metro, California:
In the olden days when ships plied the wide oceans to bring and take cargo from continent to continent, animals, in particular cows were part of cargo. When the cows did their "duty", as cows are wont to do regularly, the patties often partially dried out and formed a "gas" which today we know a methane. When one of the crew descended for whatever reasons, the lanterns they used to illuminate the space would explode!!
Finally it was discovered that the patties caused some sort of "fumes" which when fire was introduced, caused problems. Thereafter, all cow patties were stored high in the ships to avoid mishaps. There came a day when there
were signs in all types of cargo vehicles with this notation:
STORE HIGH IN TRANSIT and ultimately it just became S.H.I.T......
Do you wonder where the word crap came from? That's for another post.
Just about when you think things always work, I find that the spell checker is not working...but Chris is working on it with the "techies".
