Here is an email I am thinking of sending out to people I know, family and others. But, I thought, why not post this on my blog and hope some read it as well. So here goes:
I am sending this out because I have had a very, very hard time
trying to deal with McCain as the presumptive nominee for the
Republican Party, I, like many traditionalists knew we were going to
have a real problem. However, this piece of biography comes from
someone close to me who served time at the Hanoi Hilton with John
McCain. In circumstances such as these, who a person is comes out more
truly than in any other situation, except perhaps, at the moment just
prior to death. I will do a great more reading and listening. My hope
is that if you are not able now, today, to support McCain, perhaps this
will begin an odyssey of thought and introspection that will also lead
you to more listening and reading and perhaps, we can all find a way to
support this man. The alternative is so scary, I don't even want to
seriously think about it.
This email also represents for me the first time in my over six
decades of life where I have decided to actively get involved, as much
as I am able, to help elect someone other than Hillary Clinton. A vow
I made when the events of the Lewinsky scandal were over. In addition,
I find that Barack Obama represents for me the dream of many to have
someone who sounds and looks good, but who has absolutely no experience
in anything to run this very complex country at a crucial time in
history. A history not only of America, but of the world as we know
it. Also, we as human beings have learned to know others by the
company they keep. Obama's company is not at all to my liking.
I have requested the individual's permission to allow me to
attribute to him his take on John.****** He has given me permission.
So, for those of you who do not know my brother -in-law, let me
introduce: Jim Bedinger a fellow Californian, a husband, father and
one of the best people I have been privileged to know in my life. Here are the words of John McCain's fellow POW:
John McCain is a resolute and principled warrior.
That's why some can't stand him. Witness what he did to blow the whistle
on the Boeing/USAF double dealing on that proposed tanker deal. He just
won't back down from that type of corruption and special interest
lobbying. He also has TOO HONEST a response some time which some find
absolutely insensative and irksome while others find it refreshing and bluntly
direct. The key question is do you think either Obama or Hillary would
protect our country and way of life better than John McCain. Do you think
Hillary or Obama would appoint federal judges who would decide cases on the
constitution and current law or on what they think is best for us? And do
you care about any of this?
I know you do. And I think the closer you look,
the more comfortable you will become with John. He's the real deal.
And when he could have sat on his butt, and let Ernie Brace and I get caught
with comm notes which would have subjected us to some harch torture at that
time, John created such a scene as to warn us and bring certain punishment to
himself. He stood up heroically against torture and cruel capturers while
many others lay low and tried to stay out of harms way. Not John. He was a
hero among heroes in my book and I shall be eternally grateful to him on a
personal level So I am not totally objective for a change on the choice of
our next president. But you asked. More to follow I am
sure. February 09, 2008
And then ends the second email with his permission with these words:
Plus it was over 35
years ago and many people just want to delegate that all to
history. I think some people who now question John's true
conservative credentials are tired of some his supporters praising
his military record. This is a shame because not very many can claim
his extraordinary injuries and experiences.
Thank you for your time and patience.
